Boras Baseball Classic Kicks off 5th Anniversary with Announcement of 2017 Southern California Teams


The 16 Elite California Teams Prepare to Vie for the Boras Baseball Classic De-facto State Championship Title

Newport Beach, CA, January 9, 2017—The Boras Foundation announced today the final competitors for the Southern bracket of the highly anticipated 2017 Boras Baseball Classic.

The 32-team invitational pits 16 of the most elite high school teams from Northern California against 16 teams from Southern California to name a defacto State Championship.

“We are excited to celebrate the Classic’s five year anniversary, with our best athletes to date” said Scott Boras, Director of The Boras Foundation. “The Classic continues to draw the attention of collegiate coaches and MLB scouts from around the country due to the outstanding field of teams and players. We continue the Classic in 2017 with new and returning teams to vie for the

Championship title.” 

JSerra Catholic and Mater Dei High School will host the Southern Classic, April 18-21, 2017.

Returning State Champions, Mira Costa High School will open the 2017 Boras Baseball Classic, who boasted the likes of now alumnus Andrew Artega named Offensive Player of the Game in the 2016 State Championship game.

The 2017 Boras Classic will also feature the talent of: JSerra Catholic, Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, Aliso Niguel, El Toro, Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks), Corona Santiago, Corona, Chatsworth, Gahr, La Mirada, Damien, Vista Murrieta, Mira Costa, Huntington Beach and Bishop Amat. All hoping to break the 2-2 tie between the North and South with a State title.

The 32 invited high school teams participating in the tournament are guaranteed a minimum of four games, with a fifth game for the two schools that reach the highly anticipated state championship game. Tickets will be on sale for $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. beginning April 18, 2017.
