Boras Classic Crowns Mira Costa 2016 State Champions
In one of Coach Cassidy Olson’s final appearances with the Mustangs they take home the State Title, bringing it back to Southern California
Newport Beach, CA, May 16, 2015—The fourth annual Boras Baseball Classic State Championship game aired lived on ESPN3 and through rain delays and cold weather Mira Costa came out on top with a 7-4 win over Davis High School.
“We are really proud to bring the trophy back to the Southland. Northern California has great baseball teams and Coach Ariola and Davis were great representatives. I love this [Mustang] team, the way they fight and scrap and never give up,” said Cassidy Olson, Mira Costa Head Coach.
Hosted at University of California, Berkeley’s Evans Diamond, the field posed an extra challenge for both teams after almost a full day of showers and a 2-hour delay.
“We are proud to have two teams of such high caliber compete for the State Title and for Mira Costa a new team joining this years Classic to take home the win is a true testament that this is anyone’s game,” said Scott Boras, Director of the Boras Foundation.
With Coach Olson announcing his final season with the Mustangs earlier this year, the team was sure to send him off with a bang.
“We also want to thank the Boras Foundation for putting on such a great tournament and letting us be a part of it. We look forward to defending our title next year,” said Olson.
Closing out the Classic with an awards ceremony of the Championship trophy by the Boras Foundation also included naming Ryan Holgate of Davis as Defensive Player of the Game and Andrew Arteaga of Mira Costa, as Offensive Player of the Game.
